In the tourist village of Marken (Waterland municipality), The Netherlands, Smart Parking's Dutch distributors Taxameter Centrale have installed three unique payment terminals at a large parking lot just outside the village. In addition, our SmartEye sensors have been deployed to ensure that buses do not overstay their parking space, whilst waiting for their passengers.
Marken is a colourful peninsula in the lush, green Waterland municipality. The picturesque village is a unique attraction and visitors who come by bus, motorcycle or car, park at the large car park just outside the village. Here one must pay their parking fee and tourist taxes for the number of people that are visiting Marken. Looking to make the parking experience a smooth and efficient task the Waterland municipality seeked to automate the payment process as much as possible.
There's more! Idling buses causes a major stumbling block in the provision of bus parking for Marken. Those that overstay the parking restriction of 15 minutes cause drivers to seek parking elsewhere which in turn leads to increased car park congestion and lost service productivity.
Working with the Waterland Municipality, Taxameter Centrale provided the solution in the form of a special hi-tech parking machine. One which makes it possible for the visitor to indicate what type of vehicle they have, with how many people they have come with and how long they wish to park (1 day, 2 days, etc) - the Strada T-Pal!
Smart sensors for time limited parking
Within the car park buses are allowed up to 15 minutes of parking, for loading and unloading their passengers. If they wish to stay longer, they are now required to purchase a parking ticket from the machine. To support the enforcement of this time limited parking, Taxameter Centrale have installed Smart Parking's SmartEye sensors in each bus parking bay. This allows the enforcement agent to easily identify when a bus is parked for longer than 15 minutes and act accordingly.
Prior to the introduction of smart parking technology enforcement agents would be required to check all bus parking bays on a rotating basis where in most cases they do not require attention.
The implementation of smart parking technology enables a more targeted enforcement to the small percentage of overstays that require attention. Not only are the enforcement agents now much more effectively deployed, the turnover and availability of bus bays has also risen as bus drop-offs are much more quicker in freeing-up spaces for the next drop-off.
