Westminster and Smart Parking win parking technology category at 2014 British Parking Awards

Westminster City Council’s ground-breaking deployment of SmartPark, Smart Parking’s solution that helps drivers find a parking space quickly and conveniently, has won the prestigious Parking Technology award at the 2014 British Parking Awards staged in central London.

In the event’s most competitive category, Westminster and Smart Parking beat off nine other entries shortlisted from 15 entries to secure the award, with the accolade underlining the strengths and benefits of the technology and the project.

The initial three year long contract is seeing Smart Parking deploy up to 10,000 SmartEye sensors in two phases across the central London borough, with an initial phase of over 3,000 bay sensors installed in spaces across the West End. The scheme will take the stress out of searching for a parking space for millions of motorists in some of the busiest parts of Central London.

Kieran Fitsall, Westminster City Council Service Development Manager commented: “Westminster City Council’s parking team is thrilled to have won the Parking Technology award. We have worked hard with Smart Parking on a system we believe will make a genuine difference to motorists searching for a parking space in Westminster. It’s certainly very rewarding for that to be recognised just weeks before more than 3,000 sensors go live alongside a new version of our award winning ParkRight app.”

Paul Gillespie, Smart Parking’s Group Chief Executive Officer added: “We’re thrilled that Westminster has won this prestigious award, and we are confident that residents, businesses and visitors will have their driving and parking experience transformed in the months and years ahead. Smart Parking’s solution is becoming the blueprint for how every large city will be managing parking in the future, and we're excited to be at the forefront of this change.”
