Ever keen to broaden our horizons beyond the traditional parking industry exhibition our intrepid duo Smart Parking's Associate Director of Technology EMEA, Stephen Morgan and Contract Manager, Rob Weaver attended and exhibited at Smart to Future Cities 2017 in London, on 17/18 May. Here are Rob’s reflections:
Smart to Future Cities and Urban IoT was an interesting event. The diversity and quantity of delegates reflected the wide range of sectors that influence the Smart Cities agenda. We met people with interests in smart lighting, smart data and even multiple use poles upon which Smart City devices can be installed.
The event was a combined conference and exhibition. I spoke in the main conference hall under the ‘Innovation Spotlight’ agenda where alongside fellow exhibitors took the opportunity to tell the audience about our solutions. Stephen and I manned the stand over 2 days and enjoyed talking with a succession of visitors.
We found that the event gave us the chance to engage with senior decision makers and influencers with Smart City and broader portfolios than you sometimes find at trade exhibitions. Job titles such as ‘Head of Digital’ as well as a succession of delegates from public/private sector partnerships, and indeed from Councillors with responsibility for the local economy prove the wide appeal and interest in the event, parking’s place in the Smart City, and in particular, in Smart Parking’s solutions.
We were delighted to demonstrate the real time occupancy capability of our SmartRep back office and throughout the event showed live satellite maps of the parting provision in Westminster, Barnet and Cardiff. Visitors commented on the potential of our SmartPark solution to influence SmartCity planning. The rich data sets captured by our SmartSensors and displayed by SmartRep can help municipalities to plan provision in areas such as tariffs, enforcement and managing the demand/supply of parking. The technology we deploy also enables our on-street infrastructure to communicate with other sensing technologies in the streetscape.
We are following up opportunities with interest, including securing a speaking engagement to Danish local authorities and the possibility of pilot installations with UK and overseas cities. Thank you to everyone who found the time to come and see us. We will be in touch.
