Milton Keynes Central Station is one of the UK’s largest train stations and has over 4.5 million entries and exits per year.  With a daily average of 12,328 passengers, there’s constant pressure on the surrounding facilities.

Problems and challenges overcome

The operators of Milton Keynes Central station were fully aware of the pressures large volumes of traffic were placing on their car parks. They were in desperate need of a car park solution that would improve traffic flow, reduce queuing upon exit, and provide the data analysis they required.

Solutions deployed

Smart Parking introduced state-of-the-art ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras to each of the sites, connected to industry-leading Pay and Display machines. Maximum stay and grace periods were also implemented in certain drop-off zones. Mobile patrol officers were deployed for additional support.

The huge increase in revenue from Pay and Display machines was a key indicator of the new system’s success. Finally, our data analysis showed that the car park was running far more efficiently.
