A perfectly managed car park, at no cost? It’s possible

Managing a car park is often seen as a headache by those who own them.  Property Managers are often tasked with determining the best rules for the space.  However, enforcing these rules when they are abused by people who shouldn’t park there is often seen as difficult and expensive.  Smart Parking has a robust system that can be installed at no cost to the landowner.  ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras are positioned at the entry and exit points of the car park, allowing them to track individuals who arrive and leave the site.  Smart Parking’s Smart Cloud software is sophisticated and will know who is allowed to park there and who is not.  Those who should not be parking in the car park will be sent a Penalty Charge Notice.

Most people realise that a parking space is a valuable commodity these days, especially in cities and busy town centres.  Therefore, the logic follows that everyone should read the signs in the car park carefully and follow those rules.

Examples of parking rules below:

  • You can only stay 2 hours before you need to leave the car park, allowing someone else to arrive and use the space, as well as the nearby shops and restaurants
  • You can stay the first hour free, after which you need to pay for the parking at the advertised rates
  • You need to pay for your parking as soon as you arrive in the car park

Tips for reading car parking signs:

  • Look for a ‘P’ so you know you can park there
  • Look underneath the P to check what the time limit is; this can vary from 30 minutes all the way up to 4 hours
  • Sometimes the amount of time you can stay is in minutes, ie 120 minutes for a 2-hour stay
  • Different rules may apply on different days of the week
