{"id":7943,"date":"2025-01-30T13:05:31","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T13:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smartparking.com\/en\/latest\/2025\/january\/how-does-the-new-parking-code-of-practice-affect-the-motorist\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T12:02:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T12:02:33","slug":"how-does-the-new-parking-code-of-practice-affect-the-motorist","status":"publish","type":"latest","link":"https:\/\/www.smartparking.com\/uk\/latest\/2025\/january\/how-does-the-new-parking-code-of-practice-affect-the-motorist\/","title":{"rendered":"How does the new parking \u2018Code of Practice\u2019 affect the motorist?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During 2024, there was a lot of discussion in the news about the new \u2018single\u2019 Code of Practice and how it would protect motorists.\u00a0 This code ensured all\u00a0<em>private parking operators\u00a0<\/em>(i.e., not councils) operate using the same set of rules and regulations.\u00a0 The code aims to ensure it is fair and consistent amongst parking operators when a motorist parks on private land.\u00a0 Some of these include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarity of wording on signage displayed in the car park<\/li>\n<li>Grace periods are set at 10 mins (if it is a 1 hr space, you get 1 hr and 10 mins)<\/li>\n<li>Consistent methods when dealing with an Appeal from the motorist (Appeals Charter)<\/li>\n<li>A PC (Parking Charge) is capped at \u00a3100 and reduced to \u00a360 if paid within 14 days<\/li>\n<li>Blue Badge bays \u2013 selfish parkers will automatically receive a PC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The BPA (British Parking Association) and the IPC (International Parking Community) have worked together to construct the new consolidated Code of Practice.\u00a0 The aim is to provide parking operators with \u2018one\u2019 set of straightforward rules that will, in their words:<\/p>\n<p>\u201craise standards and deliver greater transparency and consistency for the benefit of motorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smart Parking is a member of the BPA and has consistently followed its guidelines for dealing with disputes between motorists and the landowners they work with.\u00a0 We will continue to do so whilst adopting the changes involved with the new Code of Practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During 2024, there was a lot of discussion in the news about the new \u2018single\u2019 Code of Practice and how it would protect motorists.\u00a0 This code ensured all\u00a0private parking operators\u00a0(i.e., not councils) operate using the same set of rules and regulations.\u00a0 The code aims to ensure it is fair and consistent amongst parking operators when [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":15004,"template":"","latest-category":[97,98],"class_list":["post-7943","latest","type-latest","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","latest-category-case-study-uk","latest-category-news-uk"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>How does the new parking \u2018Code of Practice\u2019 affect the motorist?
